We believe that children learn best when they are involved in the learning process; we want them to develop good habits for lifelong learning and equip them with the skills and knowledge to achieve their potential. Our curriculum includes the statutory requirements of the national curriculum as well as the extra-curricular activities that we provide.
In Key stages one and two maths, reading and writing skills are taught separately. Wherever possible children are given the opportunities to apply these skills across other curriculum areas to strengthen and refine them.
Other “stand-alone“ subjects are Science, RE, PE, PHSCE and Music. Children from Nursery to year 5 also have a weekly singing lesson. While Margaret McMillan is sensitive to religious and cultural issues, it is a non-denominational school and all children are expected to participate fully in all aspects of the national curriculum, including music and dance.
