On Thursday 7th March 2024 we will be celebrating World Book Day in school and we are very much looking forward to celebrating all things books and reading with our pupils.

Like last year, we will be asking pupils to dress up as their favourite book cover. We want to encourage you to use things you already have at home or use recycled materials to do this. There is no need to purchase anything new for the day. Below we’ve included some photos with ideas for a simple costume design that can be made using cardboard decorated to look like the cover of a book. This could be a nice family activity to complete over the half-term holidays.

Here are some examples:

Also, the Open University will be holding an online workshop after school exclusively for parents to support them further with reading at home. This exciting opportunity will provide you with strategies and tools to better support your child at home with reading. This will take place 3:45 – 4:30 in the dining hall. Refreshments will be provided.

On the day there will be:

  • Activities in classes that focus on Reading for Pleasure.
  • Each child will receive a free £1 Book Token which they can exchange for a wide range of books. You can help your child choose their £1 book by showing them the exciting ‘Look Insides’ at worldbookday.com/books. Simply take your token to the nearest book seller and exchange for a World Book Day book.

We look forward to seeing some fantastic costumes.
